What data do AI labs buy?
AI labs buy records of how real businesses actually run. The public web is largely used up as training material, so the next source is operational data: the messages, transactions, tickets and process histories companies create every day.

The records AI labs want
The strongest candidates are the systems your team already runs on:
- Slack and Teams conversations — how decisions actually get made
- Email and support tickets — real problems and real resolutions
- Transaction and financial records — how money moves through a business
- CRM histories — how relationships are won, kept and lost
- Workflows, SOPs and process documentation — how work is done
- Technical records and code repositories — how systems are built
Why real operations matter
Frontier labs need fresh, licensed data that reflects reality, and open weight models are bringing more specialist buyers into the market. A model trained only on the public web knows what people say about business — not how business is actually done.
That is why operational records command prices that public data cannot: they are scarce, they cannot be scraped, and they can only come from the businesses that created them.
What buyers exclude
Personal data. In the Spirit Airlines transaction, passenger records were excluded — only deidentified business data changed hands. The same principle applies to your records: personal and sensitive material is removed during preparation, and only properly anonymised data falls outside GDPR.
Anything you cannot lawfully license. Rights, confidentiality and third-party contracts are checked before any buyer hears about your dataset.
Do your records qualify?
We work best with trading businesses of around 30 staff or more that have been in business for three years or more, so there is enough history to prepare and license. Smaller or younger businesses can still ask; we assess every enquiry individually.
We work with companies in the US and UK that want to sell or license their data. If your business is registered and trading there, we can look at your records; size and trading history are still assessed individually. The quickest way to find out is to ask: describe what you hold and we reply with a free ballpark figure and an honest assessment.
